JP’s mother described her trip to watch him in action in Australia as "Out of this world", saying, “he proudly introduced me to all his team-mates.” On the first night he took his mother to dinner at a restaurant at the Sydney Harbour. She added: " The best part was watching him play. He would look at me and wave."

Has made 166 to help his team win the second test in Melbourne.

He was sold for $950 000.00 to the Mumbai Indians at the IPL auction in February 2009, which was more than three times his reserve price.

He broke into a strong Western Province side during the 2001/02 domestic season. He was 18 at the time, his potential was always evident and came to the fore in the South African U19 tour to England in 2003.
